What is it that interests you in genealogy? How did you get started?

Hello Brandon:
I love genealogy because I find it interesting to know where our family fits into the history of our state and of our. country, I have learned so much since I started looking into my Cooley heritage.
I used to ask my father about his family but he didn't know too much other than remembering some of his old Aunts and Uncles but no one with the last name of Cooley. As far as we knew we had no other living Cooley relatives.
One day the bug the hit me and I started looking at the local libraries and then at the Connecticut Valley Historical Society. It was there that we found the Cooley Genealogy by Mortimer E. Cooley. We were able to trace our line back to Benjamin as my grandfather was listed in the book.
My husband and I went on a cemetery search and found the graves of all of Cooley ancestors all the way back to Benjamin.
I also found many things on the local level that pertained to my Cooley family.
One of the best things was finding the Cooley Assocation of America. It is wonderful to discuss genealogy with people who appreciate what it is all about.
